If you served with the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps VISTA, or are willing to serve, you may qualify for non-competitive eligibility. Federal agencies could hire you outside of the usual competitive process.
Eligibility
Your service is valued by federal agencies. Once you successfully complete your Peace Corps service or AmeriCorps VISTA program, you can apply for federal jobs available to current government employees.
You qualify to apply for these jobs for one year after completing your service. Federal agencies may extend the period up to two additional years if, after your completed service, you are:
- In military service.
- Studying at an accredited university or college.
- Involved in another activity that the agency decides warrants an extension.
You are not entitled to a job within the federal government. You must still apply and meet qualification standards and additional requirements, such as a background investigation.
