Cohen to Continue Treasury’s Global Consultation on International Sanctions Against Iran and Syria and Efforts to Combat Illicit Finance
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced today that Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen is traveling to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) and Saudi Arabia this week to continue Treasury’s global engagement with international partners on issues related to countering terrorist financing and the implementation of international economic sanctions against Iran and Syria.
Under Secretary Cohen will meet with senior government officials in Doha, Qatar; Dubai and Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.; and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. These consultations will focus on ongoing cooperation to combat the financing of terrorism, including financing for Al-Qa’ida affiliates in Syria and throughout the region, as well as for the Taliban, Haqqani Network and other terrorists operating in South Asia. Under Secretary Cohen will also discuss the most effective means of implementing international economic sanctions against the Iranian and Syrian regimes, as well as recent political developments in the Middle East.
