WASHINGTON – On Thursday, September 8, 2011, the U.S. Department of the Treasury will convene a counter-terrorist financing symposium, Ten Years Later: Progress and Challenges in Combating Terrorist Financing Since 9/11. The symposium will include remarks from Secretary Geithner and Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John O. Brennan, and other current and former senior U.S. counterterrorism officials, national security experts and private sector leaders to discuss the accomplishments of the United States and international community in combating the financing of terrorism in the decade since 9/11, and how we must adapt and refocus our efforts in the coming years. The symposium will provide a forum to discuss the current terrorist financing landscape and catalyze a dialogue about innovative policy responses to combating terrorist financing.WHO: Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner

The entire symposium is open press but space is limited and is first come, first serve. The event will also be streamed live on www.home.treasury.gov.
All members of the media must RSVP to attend this event by contacting Frances Anderson at Frances.Anderson@treasury.gov. Media without Treasury press credentials planning to attend must include the following information: name, Social Security number, date of birth and country of citizenship. Congressional and White House press passes will not grant you access to Treasury. Please note if you have camera equipment. The deadline to RSVP for all members of the media wishing to attend is Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at 12:00 PM ET.
Press with camera equipment should arrive at the Moat Entrance (south side of the Treasury building, adjacent to the Hamilton entrance) no later than 7:30 a.m. to allow time for equipment sweeps and escorts to the Cash Room. No vehicles will be permitted onto Treasury grounds; equipment must be carried in. All other media can enter the Treasury building through the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance and should allow 45 minutes to clear through security.
