WASHINGTON – On Thursday, December 17, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Jacob J. Lew will chair a Summit of Finance Ministers of the United Nations Security Council on combating ISIL financing and broader opportunities to strengthen global efforts to combat the financing of terrorism. This meeting marks the first time that finance ministers have convened for an official Security Council meeting and underscores the importance of united international efforts to countering the financing of terrorism as part of our work to defeat ISIL and terror threats like it.
