President Bush Announces Advisory Council on Financial Literacy

President Bush announced the establishment of the President's Advisory Council on Financial Literacy this week, which brings together members of the business, faith and non-profit worlds to make recommendations as to how to improve financial education in the United States. The Council will advise the President and Secretary Paulson on ways to improve Americans' understanding of mortgages, credit cards, retirement planning and other financial tools. The Council will also recommend ways to better measure the progress of U.S. financial literacy. Treasury has been active in numerous endeavors aimed at promoting financial literacy, including the Financial Literacy and Education Commission, which coordinates the federal government's financial education efforts and maintains a website full of free financial literacy resources at www.mymoney.gov.
