Readout from a Treasury Spokesperson of Secretary Lew’s Meeting with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in Lima

LIMA – U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew met today with Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group. 

In their first meeting since last month’s elections in Greece, Secretary Lew congratulated Minister Tsakalotos on his reappointment as finance minister and commended his commitment to finding a constructive path forward for Greece within the Eurozone.

Secretary Lew noted that Treasury continues to closely monitor Greece’s economic situation, and reiterated the importance of the Greek government continuing to implement reforms and of Europe following through on its commitment to put Greece’s debt on a sustainable path through debt relief.

Secretary Lew also expressed his concern for the migrant crisis in Europe and conveyed his support for all efforts to prevent further hardship through a comprehensive European response.
