LIMA – U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew met today with Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Choi Kyung-hwan on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.
Secretary Lew and Deputy Prime Minister Choi discussed global economic developments and areas of mutual concern related to North Korea. Secretary Lew underscored the need for all countries to continue to meet their G-20 commitments, including the commitments to move toward market-determined exchange rates and not target exchange rates for competitive purposes. Secretary Lew also stressed the importance of increased transparency of foreign exchange operations. Secretary Lew warmly welcomed the upcoming visit by President Park to Washington, D.C. next week.
