ANTALYA, TURKEY – U.S. Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew held his first meeting today with Canadian Finance Minister Bill Morneau on the sidelines of the G-20 Leaders Summit.
Secretary Lew conveyed his warm congratulations to Minister Morneau on his appointment, and highlighted the close partnership and deep economic relationship that exists between the United States and Canada. The Secretary discussed areas for even greater cooperation to enhance sustained and shared global growth and North American competitiveness, such as trade and climate change. Secretary Lew discussed the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and the importance of moving forward in ratifying and implementation the high-standard agreement. They discussed the Trudeau government’s fiscal policy priorities, and the Secretary conveyed to Minister Morneau that Treasury staff looks forward to engaging closely as Canada implements its new policy direction.
