WASHINGTON – On Friday, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent met with Minister of Finance and National Revenue François-Philippe Champagne of Canada. Secretary Bessent and Minister Champagne discussed the conflict with Iran, energy markets, and ways to build on progress made on the United States’ and Canada’s critical minerals collaboration. They stressed the importance of further strengthening the U.S.-Canada bilateral relationship and of building momentum heading into the USMCA review.
The Secretary also encouraged Canada to continue to assist with the Trump administration’s efforts to tackle drug trafficking-related illicit financing.
