WASHINGTON – U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin met with Vice Chancellor and Finance Minister Olaf Scholz of Germany. The Secretary and Minister discussed the Minister’s domestic economic priorities, as well as the Minister’s views on priorities for reforms to strengthen Europe’s monetary union. The Secretary emphasized the importance of all NATO members meeting their commitments on defense spending. Secretary Mnuchin and Minister Scholz further discussed the United States and Germany working together to counter illicit financial activity by North Korea, to include the recently released G-7 Finance Ministers joint statement on illicit financial activity by North Korea and the urgency for countries to expel North Korea’s overseas banking and trade representatives.
