The Treasury Department building remains on its original site from the year 1800 in Washington, DC. The building you see now, from the mid-1800's, continues to adapt and serve the contemporary needs of managing the nations finances.

The Treasury building has witnessed several major restoration efforts and is a National Historic Landmark. While some historic rooms may appear as if they are part of a museum, the building continues to be a working Federal office building.

"Factory" operations like the Mint and the Bureau of Engraving & Printing are no longer a part of the building. Executive offices including the Secretary, economic and policy offices and support programs are the primary occupants of the building.

The Treasury building continues to serve as the main office building for the Treasury Department even with the requirements of the occupants being vastly different than in 1836. Important historic offices have been restored throughout the building.
