SUBJECT: Delegation of Authority and Responsibility for Destruction of Security Items
- PURPOSE. This Order establishes the delegation of authorities relating to the destruction of United States security items.
- SCOPE. This Order applies to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (“the Bureau”) and the Office of the Fiscal Assistant Secretary. The provisions of this Order shall not be construed to interfere with or impede the authorities or independence of the Department’s Inspectors General.
- DELEGATION. By virtue of the authority vested in me as Secretary of the Treasury, I hereby delegate authority for the destruction of United States security items as follows:
- The Director, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, shall be responsible for the redemption and destruction of mutilated currency, the redemption and destruction of unfit currency, and the destruction of waste and spoiled items produced in printing currency, securities, worn out or obsolete plates, dies, bedpieces, and similar items and materials; and
- The Fiscal Assistant Secretary shall be responsible for the destruction of retired and unissued securities.
- CANCELLATION. Treasury Order 135-01, "Delegation of Authority and Responsibility for Destruction of Security Items," dated June 26, 2019, is superseded.
