Washington – U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin today issued the following statement on President Trump signing the Section 232 Proclamations on Steel and Aluminum Imports:
"President Trump has announced a critical decision that reinforces the importance of the aluminum and steel industries with respect to the national security of the United States. These tariffs are a necessary tool to strengthen both our economic and national security. The president has made clear his consideration to grant certain exemptions. Secretary Ross will also lead a process that could result in exemptions on specific products."
