Community Overview: The Greater St. Louis Community Financial Access Pilot (CFAP) serves the St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), especially the City of St. Louis and St. Louis County, Missouri. The Greater St. Louis area includes a total of 11 counties in Missouri and Illinois with an estimated population of 2.7 million. The region has a diverse population, and areas of significant population decline, unemployment, and low median incomes.
Initiative Overview: The Greater St. Louis CFAP will build upon the financial education and asset building initiatives already in place across the community, expand on services offered, and enhance coordination among the service providers. The initiative's goals and objectives are to: increase access to financial education programs offered throughout the region, particularly for residents residing in low-income areas; establish strategies for increasing access to financial products and services for all consumers, especially the unbanked and underbanked individuals; determine effective approaches to increase use of accounts for the low-and moderate-income individuals; and identify issues and those willing to advocate for policy change to reduce barriers and challenges, which negatively impact a family or individual's financial stability.
