Cohen to Continue Treasury’s Global Consultation on Efforts to Combat Terrorist Financing and Implement International Sanctions

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced today that Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen is traveling to Iraq, Israel, Turkey, and the United Kingdom this week to continue Treasury’s global engagement on combatting terror financing and money laundering, and to discuss the implementation of international economic sanctions against Iran and Syria.
Under Secretary Cohen will meet with senior government officials and members of the financial sector in Baghdad, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Ankara, and London. These discussions will focus on steps that governments and the financial sector can take to protect the international financial system from the threat of terrorist financing, especially financing linked to al-Qa’ida operations throughout the region including Syria. The Under Secretary will also discuss the importance of economic sanctions against Iran and the Asad regime in Syria.
