Trip will Continue Global Consultation on Efforts to Implement Sanctions Against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Iran
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced today that Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen is traveling to Japan, the Republic of Korea, and China next week to discuss the implementation of economic sanctions targeting the continued proliferation activities of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as to continue Treasury’s international engagement regarding international sanctions focused on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile program.
Under Secretary Cohen will meet with senior government officials and key representatives of the private sector in Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, Republic of Korea; and Beijing, China. These discussions will focus on the ongoing cooperation and consultation to implement United Nations sanctions designed to disrupt the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s efforts to continue its nuclear proliferation activities and ballistic missile programs. They will also discuss the international community’s implementation of economic sanctions against Iran. Ambassador Daniel Fried, the Department of State’s Coordinator for Sanctions Policy, will accompany Under Secretary Cohen on the trip.
