WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, October 1, 2014, Secretary Jacob J. Lew will host an event at the Treasury Department to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund). Secretary Lew and Deputy Secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin will deliver remarks on the achievements of the CDFI Fund and its ongoing efforts to spur economic development in low-income and underserved communities. Former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and former National Economic Council Director Gene Sperling will also participate at this event. The program will include panel discussions with CDFI Fund stakeholders and businesses.
The CDFI Fund provides grants, loans, equity investments, tax credits, and bond guarantees to community development organizations in urban and rural areas thought the nation. Since its creation, the CDFI Fund has awarded more than $2 billion through its monetary award programs and allocated $40 billion in tax credit allocation authority. It has also issued $525 million in bond guarantees for community development.

Media attending with camera equipment must arrive at the South Entrance (15th Street and Alexander Hamilton Place) no later than 12:30 p.m. to allow time for equipment sweeps and set-up. No vehicles will be permitted onto Treasury grounds; equipment must be carried in. All other media should arrive by 1:30 p.m. at the main entrance (Pennsylvania Avenue/New York Avenue and 15th Street).
