Trip to Build Support for Economic Measures to Promote Global Growth
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced today that Deputy Secretary Neal S. Wolin will travel to Thailand and the Philippines on January 10-12, 2012, for meetings with senior government officials. The Deputy Secretary will promote continuing economic reforms to ensure regional stability and foster global growth.
On Tuesday, January 10, Deputy Secretary Wolin will meet with senior members of Thailand’s government in Bangkok, to reaffirm the support of the United States as Thailand works to rebalance its economy and recover from unprecedented flooding. The Deputy Secretary will also seek to promote further trade and investment between the U.S. and Thailand, the second-largest economy in Southeast Asia.
On Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12, the Deputy Secretary will visit Manila in the Philippines for meetings with senior government officials to express support for the economic reforms undertaken by the Aquino Administration. The Philippines is a member of the Obama administration's Partnership for Growth and has undertaken important reforms to solidify its macroeconomic stability and growth prospects. The Deputy Secretary will also meet with the Aquino government’s economic policy team to exchange perspectives on global and regional developments and review economic policy issues that are critical for boosting trade in order to support jobs and economic growth in the United States.
